Speech Pathology Week 2026

23 – 29 August 2026

This year’s theme, Communication creates possibility, reflects what speech pathologists see every day in practice. When communication needs are supported, people have more opportunities to connect, learn, make choices, participate and thrive.

At NSW CER, speech pathologists have a key role in helping students with their reading intervention. Speech pathologists are an important part of the team because of the close relationship between reading, learning and spoken language. We know that approximately 50% of people with reading difficulties have co-occurring speech and /or language disorders, for example Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).

To celebrate NAIDOC Week, NSW CER staff came together to honour and celebrate the rich culture and heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This included a range of experiences, including:

- A Wiradjuri Language lesson led by students from Narromine High School

- Learning about Totems and Identity with Aunty Beth and Uncle John

- Creating beautiful collaborative artworks inspired by Dreamtime stories.

- Presenting our draft Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) reaffirming our dedication to reconciliation.

2026 Semester 2 Supervising Teacher Induction

This week we welcomed Supervising Teachers to an online Induction session. It was lovely to meet 23 staff from our schools around the state, welcoming returning teachers and meeting new teachers.

We are looking forward to continuing the partnerships and working together to support the 2026 Semester 2 students.

NSW CER Term 3 Week 4 Webinar

Enhancing Reading Through Motivation

NSW CER was pleased to present it's first online school webinar for Semester 2, 2026.

There was great attendance and partipcation by our 106 attendees. Our psychologists shared valuable strategies for engaging and motivating students when learning to read is feeling really hard for them

Look out for our upcoming session on Supporting sensory needs in the classroom, with guest presenter Tracy Phan, Occupational Therapist from The Children's Hospital at Westmead.

Good News Story

We were thrilled to hear from Darcy's central west school that since starting with NSW CER, family and school report that Darcy has improved in confidence.

For the first time ever, she has had a playdate, and she now plays happily in the playground at breaktime. This brought tears to our eyes and we are so happy for her.
