Referral and Intervention Management System (RIM)

The NSW Centre for Effective Reading (NSW CER) Referral and Intervention Management system manages the student referrals from eligible NSW schools. The system also manages the intervention and support processes for students who receive a direct service from the NSW CER.

All RIM users are required to log on using their unique details. Only designated school staff are able to access the RIM system.

Starting a referral - DoE Principals
As a Department of Education Principal:
1. Log into the Department portal.
2. Select the RIM  link provided to you in your referral initiation sent by email at the start of Term 2 or Term 4. It is recommended that this URL is saved.
3. Select Department of Education user. The system identifies principals from eligible schools.
4. Once logged in, your personalised dashboard is displayed. Commence a referral, or allocate a teacher to the supervising teacher role. They will then be able to commence and complete the referral on your behalf. Note: Principals will need to log on to review and submit the completed referral.
5. If your user ID is not accepted, please email NSWCER@det.nsw.edu.au.
Starting a referral - Non-DoE Principals
First time users follow all steps. If you have used the system previously, go to Step 4.
1. Request access to commence a student referral, by emailing NSWCER@det.nsw.edu.au with your title, name, email, role, school name, school phone.
2. Once registered you will receive an email with a link to the online management system. You will be requested to create a password.
3. Once the password is set, log in each time by selecting Non Department user from the toolbar and enter your email address and password. It is recommended that this URL is saved.
Allocating a teacher to complete a referral

Principals can allocate a teacher to complete the online referral. Principals are still required to review and submit the referral once the teacher has completed the online components of the referral. This includes attaching the required documents (PLP, student's referral assessment recording sheets).

  1. Start a new referral under 'Referral management tasks' - Referrals for 202X Semester X' and start a new referral.
  2. Once the student details have been entered, the Principal can then change the referral owner to the delegated teacher, by clicking on the 'Action' honeycomb, clicking on the 'Change referral owner' button and entering their details.
  3. If the delegated teacher's name is not in the dropdown menu, they will need to be added via 'System User Management tasks' as a new supervising teacher from the Principal dashboard. Then return to step 2.
How to upload / download feedback and monitoring
Every 2 weeks the partner school is required to upload the student monitoring that has been completed as part of the intervention sessions. Click here to view a short video on how to download feedback and upload monitoring.
