Our school
A Department of Education school, NSW Centre for Effective Reading, supports students with reading difficulties in rural and remote primary schools who have been referred by their school for assessment and intervention.
Our staff comprise of teachers, speech pathologists and psychologists who work together to assess students who have been accepted for support. A reading intervention is written by our teachers and we support the school to deliver the intervention, providing resources and ongoing support for 12 months.
We work with partner schools, families, carers and support staff to make a reading intervention plan for each student that is accepted for support. This means all students can learn in a way that suits them best.
Our reading support is set up to meet each student’s needs, catering for each partner schools’ unique context. We make sure students feel safe, respected and ready to learn in a way that suits them. Our staff are caring and are skilled to help students feel confident, connected and proud of who they are.
Our school uses a placement process. Enrolment occurs through a formal referral submitted by the student’s school. Families are encouraged to talk with their local school if they think our support might be right for their child. To learn more, visit our enrolment process page.
Targeted assessment and intervention supports are available to students attending eligible rural and remote primary schools. These students are accepted for direct support through a referral process each semester, where eligible schools submit a referral requesting support.
Students may be allocated for support through hubs located at Dubbo, Wagga Wagga, Manly and Westmead. Students may be requested to attend Dubbo, Wagga Wagga or Westmead sites for assessment. Assessments may be provided remotely.
Students accepted for support through the Westmead hub may be requested to attend the Child Development Unit, Westmead Children's Hospital for assessment.
